In recent years, the Department for Education has had a strong ambition for the sector to continue growing and for every school to be a part of a strong family of schools. And, every year, more schools and pupils become part of a school trust. In a 2022 report, The Key found that 78% of trust leaders are planning their trust to grow this year. At the same time, the number of trusts is not increasing. As a result, we are seeing both growth
and consolidation by trusts merging and taking on new schools to gain more operational efficiencies, education quality improvements and staff development opportunities.
Edurio has been working with growing trusts since 2017 to support them during the growth process, as well as track progress after the expansion or merger. We have seen that maintaining a strong culture through growth is critically important and not a trivial task. With much information available on the legal aspects of mergers, culture has taken the back seat. Yet, it is the cultural alignment that will eventually determine if the union has been successful.
